Air travels – a terrifying experience
It was a summer afternoon in 1992. I was on an Indian Airlines plane in the western part of the country, when I heard that I was not. 5-7 minutes agonizing yet afraid of me every time I look back.
Marketing as a profession needs a bit of “Voyage. I was based in Calcutta, the eastern part of the country. I was asked by my superior officer to accompany him while he was visiting a manufacturing plant Baroda is located in the extreme west.
We took a morning flight from Calcutta to 6:00 in the morning and reached Bombay (Mumbai, western India), around 09:30, we were booked for a flight to Baroda (Vadodara) from 15:30 on the same day . We finished our meal at the airport and took a stress free time at leisure.
We passed the security check in time and boarded the flight, which was a 30-40 minute flight. I took the window seat and took over my old room. The plane took off without difficulty. I looked out my window as we were on the Sea of Oman and will continue to do so before we took a right turn of Baroda.
Suddenly, I discovered that the hum of the engine was exceptionally low and I thought the pilot must have found technical reasons to use a single engine. Then there was the announcement by the pilot of the system of public information. His words were: “Ladies and gentlemen, I am your captain this fight. We have been informed by checking that there is a bomb on board. We’re back in Bombay periodic inspection, please do not reach prey panic. I can assure you that there is no such thing on board, and a simple phone hoax. Thank you. “
The timing of the announcement was complete, a terrible fear gripped my senses. Maybe anytime, oh What a situation! We could not do anything but pray to God that nothing happened. I thought of my children and I tried to distract the imagination of the incoming event and, of course, I prayed my God save us from this situation. I looked out the window and discovered that the plane was moving at the slowest speed! Inside, I saw my colleague experienced in his seat, eyes closed. Most of my co-travelers had their eyes closed. The hostess was right to air on the seat in front of us wiped off with a face, as if the whole blood was removed from his body. There was pin drop silence really, except the low humming sound of the engine of the aircraft.
I saw near the track, but very slowly, once more. The inner feeling is that this can happen at any time, no? How could this be possible? Questions and answers crossed my mind several times and I was powerless to pray and use my God.
Amid such mixed feelings, we touched the runway and within minutes after landing and the first thing I did was thank God with full reverence.
A few hours later we were sitting in the departure lounge for a special flight to Baroda in the same evening.
Tips to make air travel a long flight more enjoyable
The days of free meals, free blankets and also on the allocation of free tickets are long gone. As airlines do everything possible to reduce costs, and Homeland Security introduced new security measures that are even more annoying for passengers using the flight becomes more difficult all the time.
Many airlines have reduced the number of aircraft in their fleet so that flights are packed. There are new restrictions on when you can get up, where you can put your hand luggage, and when you can read your magazine.
But there are some things you can do to minimize the discomfort of air travel today. Here is our list of tips to make a long-haul flight less painful:
1) Take a non-stop flight. Depending on the destination, it will not always be possible. But if a non-stop flight is a chance, take it. You will spend the least time in the air. You can eliminate the risk of losing the connection. And your bags are much more likely to come with you.
2) Take a morning flight. As the day progresses, delays ranging from mild to severe. What begins as a delay of 30 minutes to 8 may be a delay of three hours in the afternoon.
3) Flight on a big plane. Aircraft wings, AKA local large, are much larger aircraft with a corridor. In general, there is more space. And there are places available Lane. Check a site like Trip seatexpert.com seatguru.com or to find a seating plan for the flight. You can travel in business class, looking for a configuration of 4-2 with two seats. Nab one of the sides in two places and you’ll be very comfortable. But even if you’re in the middle section, you can usually get out without disturbing anyone, but your partner.
4) Make sure the connection makes sense. Usually, there are many cities you can connect through your trip from A to B. Do not assume that all are equal. A link city is in the opposite direction of your destination city just add a lot of flight time for your trip. And if you can avoid it, do not fly in a city known for the weather and traffic delays – winter in Chicago or JFK any time.
5) Carry your bag. Today, it is really useful for traveling light. Not only to avoid the cost and hassle of baggage checks, have you eliminated the risk of losing your luggage. Check website for airline baggage size – bags that are sold here as hand luggage are really good too. And take as little as you need to feel comfortable and attractive.
6) Divide the clothing between the two exchanges. You can minimize the discomfort of a lost bag if you and your traveling companion, is to put “clothes in a bag of others. Have clothes to wear until the stock market is making it much less of an ordeal.
7) Stylish clothes. It is difficult to say what the weather will be like on your flight, so be prepared for anything to die from hot to cold Arctic to the Sahara. There is nothing worse than being too hot or too cold for hours. And now that the airlines do not cover, is even more important to be ready for anything. Wear layers so you can add or submission, depending on temperature.
Eat healthy. As tempting as it may be to start your holiday early with a big fat plate of nachos the night before the flight, are not. Avoid spicy foods high in fat, but you can usually digest anything.
9) Wear something comfortable. Elastic and assembly are fundamental dissolved. And choose something that does not comply – or will be good if it were unleashed. Good walking shoes are a must, especially if you walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 31. In addition, if you do, you will not have to pack them.
10) Take something to eat. When airlines serve food, it is very rich in sodium or not very good, or both. Make a sandwich the night before, pop in the freezer and take them with you to get on your flight.
10) Bring water on your flight. Do not rely on flight attendants to maintain a constant flow of H2O. Bring and drink plenty of fluids to counteract the dehydrating effect of the flight.

Think about what you are looking forward to your destination, and let go. If you’re lucky, you wake up when the captain announces the final approach.
Business & Achilles “heel“ of air travel
For those of us who have only air once or twice, you may be lucky to have never had your flight is delayed, not canceled one. However, for those of us who fly on a regular basis delays and cancellations is nothing new – especially during volcanic eruptions and British Airways strikes in 2010.
Men and women in business would soar to discuss business, plan to fly again after a few days, only to find the flight was canceled for several days to come. These eruptions would have caused the airlines about $ 250 million in lost revenue per day, but no real value can be placed on the losses that caused the company because of late meetings and hours of work lost.
Although the clouds of ash and delayed to cancel many flights, which seems to occur on a regular basis without the help of a volcano or justification by the airline. Even the trains, which were known to be delayed, may be more reliable in those days.
Of course there are cases that can be done face to face or on the spot, but for companies that send staff to attend meetings and conferences locally, there are certainly other solutions that are more reliable.
Some alternatives are conferences and meetings with conference calls and web conferencing services.
Conference Call can be made by phone or from anywhere, and can allow up to 50 people to attend a meeting. There are other features like call recording, also available. If documents must be shared, web conferencing is still an excellent alternative that allows you to share documents and discuss live.
Again, there are cases to be handled face to face, but for a company that simply can not face delays or simply be more efficient, the conference call is certainly a solution that should be examined.
